One Night with Paris... in Montreal

Special report from Ivana Tough

Saturday April 5th, 2008 was one of the best nights of my life. Let me tell you why.
It was announced that on the day socialite, Paris Hilton, herself would be in Montreal to promote her new line of shoes. Then later that night she’d be partying it up at the club, Tribe. Being a big fan of The Simple Life and Paris I knew this would be my only chance to meet her and I was determined to do it. The entire week leading up to Saturday flew by and all too many people were poking fun at me for loving Paris Hilton to begin with (Including Ron Hollywood, the editor of 10 scale reviews) or they tried to discourage me from going to Tribe to take a chance at meeting her. Nobody, including my friend, Christine, who was coming with me that night believed I would actually follow through with my obsessive plan to meet Paris.

Drama aside, my friend Christine and I hadn’t even reached the bouncers at the door to Tribe before they decided they were letting us in. Credit given to the fact that we looked amazing, we skipped the two block line-up down the street and walked straight in (being the rightful socialites Christine and I are. We don’t ‘do’ lines). As expected, the club had ridiculously high energy with upbeat music and everybody seemed to be having a great time.

We all sort of expected it, but Paris didn’t make an appearance until about 1:30 in the morning. My friend and I only noticed she had shown up because a mob of people were crowding around a seated area. So, all excited, Christine and I pushed through the crowd and eventually got super-close to her! Could my chance to meet her really happen? Suddenly things looked grim. It was kind of sucky how little attention she was paying to her fans that were being shoved around by people at the back of the mob. It was as if the wall of human beings surrounding her was no different than any others made of brick or stone.

As I’m sure you can all imagine; I wasn’t too impressed when a tray of four drinks were spilled onto my $200 shoes… but I got over it. We finally got Paris Hilton’s attention because she was definitely smiling and laughing at Christine and I for making fools of ourselves by screaming like crazy groupies! After about twenty minutes of trying to get her attention back, I was getting a little impatient; after all, I was on a mission. I was going to get my picture with the Heiress. End of story.

Paris was taking a bunch of pictures with the people in her entourage over and over again. Once she was within reaching distance, I took the chance. As soon as she was finished posing with her arm around one of her girlfriends’ back, I reached out and tugged at her hand. Looking back on it, she totally could have just given me a dirty look and gotten me kicked out, but when I asked her to “please take a picture with me!” she absolutely agreed. My moment was arriving. WhooHoo!!! She came and leaned right up beside me as if we were long lost friends and smiled. The people behind me got insanely rowdy, but she took the picture with me, smiled like her cutesy self, and then skipped off to get a glass of champagne.

After this, Christine and I decided to leave and begin making our “WE TOLD YOU SO!” phone calls to all our nocturnal friends. It was most excellent. Overall, I think it would make sense to label it as a successful night, if only for cutting in front of a bunch of people waiting in line!

Great big thank you to Ron Hollywood for the honour of asking me to write for his marvelous site!
