Rolling Stones Shine a Light
by Ron Hollywood
produced by Bob Clearmountain and Glimmer Twins
Yet another ‘live’ Rolling Stones album after another massive world tour. However this is not so much The Bigger Bang tour especially since there’s not a single track from that album on this double disc collection. No, this is a companion to Martin Scorsese’s IMAX Rolling Stone’s film Shine A Light filmed and recorded at two night’s at New York’s Beacon Theater.
What is it that the Stones can offer us this time since there are so many ‘live’ albums as it is. Well for starters there’s some rare never performed live tracks like She Was Hot or Keith Richard’s horse vocal on Connection. Most of disc one is those rare songs and a very intense duet with Buddy Guy on the blues chestnut Champagne & Reefer. Jack White’s vocals sound perfectly made for Loving Cup.
Disc 2 is more of the hits we’ve gotten a dozen times already like Satisfaction, Brown Sugar_, Start Me Up,etc. There is a perful vocal from Christina Aguilera on the rocker Live With Me. It’s been a while since we’ve heard Keith do Little T&A. It all ends with the gospel tinged, Shine A Light.
