Randy Jackson's Music Club Volume One
by Ron Hollywood

Produced by Randy Jackson

This cd is very much what top 40 would sound like if American Idol judge Randy Jackson were a radio programmer. He’s assembled and produced various vocal talents like Joss Stone on the excellent funky Walk On By to deliver safe sounding pop songs with some R&B and weak mellow rock like Willing To Try from Richie Sambora and Travis Tritt. Dance Like there’s No Tomorrow is classic sounding Paula Abdul. Sam Moore, Keb ‘Mo and Angie Stone butcher Wang Dang Doodle. Randy’s even recruited American Idol alumni Elliot Yamin and Katherine McPhee to duet on Real Love. What would a Randy Jackson product be like without vocal cooing from Mariah Carey on the 7 minute gospel closer I Understand with Bebe Winans and Hezekiah Walker’s Love Fellowship Tabernacle Church Choir.

It’s a Cd that gives an impression of listening to an American Idol finale with guest stars. Somewhere in the middle I was getting bored. There’s just not enough good material or big names to make this worth repeated listens.
